Bruno Maisonnier

Dear Nao's friends,

After two years of intensive development, the Aldebaran Team is entering in a new phase which will conclude with the delivery of our first robots. During this phase, our communications will be more frequent, our involvement in the growing community will deepen and enthusiasts' feedbacks will be sought more than ever.

In the name of the whole team, I would like to thank you for your passion, that exceeds our expectations, as well as the precious help that you have provided through the Focus Groups and Forums, where you have succeeded, thanks to the quantity and the quality of your ideas in making Nao ever better. Many thanks.

Bruno Maisonnier, Aldebaran Robotics President and Founder
Nao is in the final phase of mecatronics (mechanics and electronics) refinement. The most recent prototype, Al-05b (the red one), was assembled in July 2007 to be presented to the Robocup Organization Committee in Atlanta (USA).

The result was conclusive: Nao is now the new official robot of the Standard Platform League for Robocup 2008 in China.

Since AL-05a, our December 2006 prototype (the blue one, below), the main improvements relate to the articulations, more robust and smooth, the implementation of Ultra sound sensors in the torso and touch sensitive pads on the top of his head. The head has been improved and now featured eyes illuminated by 6 multicolour LEDs each.

In software, we are currently developing a programming tool - code name 'Choreographer'. It's user friendly interface will offer different level of programming so that beginners and professionals alike will be able to enjoy teaching their Nao new behaviors.
